What is Rapé?

Rapé or hapé, is a sacred shamanic snuff made from finely-ground tobacco leaves and a variety of other natural plant ingredients, such as ashes, tree barks, and seeds. The mixture is typically administered into the nostrils using a pipe or a self-applicator, and the resulting effect is said to clear the mind, enhance sensory perception, and promote a sense of grounding and connection with the natural world. Rape snuff is often used in shamanic ceremonies and healing rituals by indigenous communities in South America, such as the Yanomami, Kaxinawá, and Yawanawá. The use of rape snuff is considered a spiritual practice and is believed to have medicinal and therapeutic benefits. However, it can also be harmful if used improperly or excessively and should be approached with caution.
